It seemed that the old calligraphy "parchment" paper that I used to use years ago is no longer available, and what passes for calligraphy paper these days is thin, cheap, and bleeds like I stabbed it with my calligraphy nib. So I went hunting online for something different, and a discussion on a Reddit forum led me here. I ordered a sheet, cut into four pieces. I further cut a single piece into two 8x10s and 1 5x7, plus scrap. I tucked the other three pieces back into the paper wrapping for later. So one sheet is a LOT of paper. Then, I broke out my pens and gave it a try. It is amazing. I love the translucence, the texture, and the feel. A pen loaded with india ink glides across it with hardly any pressure, leaving crisp lines. Paint looks luminous, especially metallic paint, since the sheets are translucent. It takes embossing quite well, even when embossing inked areas, so I am able to make the lettering raised. Then I broke out a pocket knife and tried scraping away ink and paint. Ink scrapes away more thoroughly than paint, because part of the paint pigment does soak into the paper. Ink does not seem to. I tried both "calligraphy" and india ink. I would not attempt to re-letter over a scraped-away area, but it certainly works for correcting minor imperfections. I am sure an embossed area painted in gold or silver paint would look amazing.
