Ecoline from Royal Talens are intensely saturated, dye-based liquid watercolors that are ready-to-use right out of the jar! Ecoline dries within minutes but can easily be rewetted, diluted, or mixed to create a plethora of unique hues. Color intensity is excellent, and can easily be controlled by adding more water. Transparent and best used with watercolor brushes, airbrushes, waterbrushes, technical drawing pens, and broad-edge calligraphy pens on white or light-colored papers. Each 30mL jar features a built-in pipette for easy palette mixing.

Our favorite way to use Ecoline Liquid Watercolors is in concert with colored brush pens for gradient effects! Here's how to do it:
  • Choose a brush pen that contains water-based ink (Royal Talens's Ecoline brush pen is a great choice).
  • Choose an Ecoline bottle in a corresponding color.
  • Dip the point of your brush pen into the Ecoline Liquid Watercolor.
  • Letter away! Your lettering will begin with the Liquid Watercolor shade you choose, and gradually fade to the brush pen shade for an easy gradient.

The color is beautiful and it writes smoothly with pointed and glass pen. It also washes off easily with water, which makes clean-up quick.

I found these hard to work with at first. But after some experimenting, I wouldn't be without them. They are interesting, transparent, rich and flowing. I often use a few basic colors as a base to work around. I'm a little worried about whether or not they are lightfast enough for finished art (as opposed to prints/illustrations), but I've not had any problems with them so far. And I've made sure I framed paintings with them in, with UV glass, and recognizing the painting may change later on, in interesting ways. I've found reviews which say they are more lightfast than quite a few other inks, so who knows, I love them whatever happens....
