Cheryl Dyer - Intro to Copperplate Calligraphy
Join Cheryl Dyer, Omaha calligrapher and lettering artist, as she leads students in learning the basics of pointed-pen calligraphy. No calligraphy experience (or good handwriting!) needed, advanced or intermediate students will also benefit from guidance by an experienced instructor.
The supplies required are:
- Pen/ Nib Holder*
- Speedball Oblique Holder (if right handed)
- Speedball Straight Holder (if left handed) *both of these options are entry-level plastic holders. Any equivalent holders are just fine.
Nibs - Hunt 22b nib (buy at least 2)
Paper (choose one of the following pads of semi-transparent, smooth paper) - Canson Pro-Layout Marker pad, 12x9
- Borden & Riley Marker Layout pad, 12x9
- Strathmore 400 Series Layout Bond pad, 12x9
- Rhodia pad, unlined, 8.25 x 11.75
- Clairefontaine Blank pad, unlined, 8.25 x 11.75
Ink/Writing Medium - Sumi Ink (any brand, black my choice is Moon Palace)
Other - very small container for ink at least deep and fairly narrow (Dinky dips are perfect)
- paper towels
- container for rinse water
- pencil
- ruler or straight edge
- a larger, thicker piece of paper to place under your writing paper to serve as a sort of pad (think: cardstock or construction paper)
Optional: - washi tape
- apron
- Le Pen Flex marker, any color (if interested in learning to also use a marker) notecard, postecard, envelope, placecard (something besides paper to write on!)
