Sharpen Up! – Using Dry Brush to Crisp Edges and Smooth Blends with Laura Silburn
Bring your work into focus in the final stages for clarity and crispness. We will look at which brush to use and how much water to add, we’ll consider how to spread the paint on the palette, how to prepare your brush and how to hold and move the brush when applying the paint. We will also look at how different marks can help you ‘patch up’ where needed, taking control of the finish of your picture.
We will put this into practice making a badly painted shape and then smartening it up to make a crisp and clear finished image!
Supplies:
- one colour of paint.
- a palette: a large, flat one like a plate is perfect.
- water pot and kitchen towel or other cloth.
- brushes, preferably to include a miniature or spotter brush in a small size and a small synthetic brush for rougher work.
- You will also need your regular painting paper.
- A tool for burnishing and some tracing paper may also be useful.
