Weaver Writing Style by Bill Kemp - Level: All Skill Levels

This class is for both beginning and experienced students. It will cover the techniques of a script developed by Gwen Weaver, who passed away on September 19, 2013. Gwen had a great love for the pointed pen, which led her to take advantage of an oblique penholder and her pointed pen to the next level. Like Copperplate, Engrosser’s Script, and Spencerian, Weaver Writing utilizes the oblique penholder; however, a straight penholder can also be used. Having a working knowledge of Copperplate or Spencerian scripts using the oblique penholder is helpful but is not a requirement. I have taught many beginners who have never used an oblique penholder (with a pointed pen) to use this script. Learning this alphabet/script with the oblique penholder is a great introduction to the pointed pen. With 26 letters, it is easy for a beginner or experienced calligrapher to learn both the script and using the use of an oblique penholder.

Class Supplies:

  • An oblique penholder
  • Nib (suggested: a Nikko G nib or Gillott 1068A - experienced individuals can use their favorite nib)
  • Any color McCaffery ink or your favorite ink used with the pointed pen (other suggested inks would be Moon Palace Sumi, or Old World Ink)
  • Grid-square paper pads (5 squares per inch) from Rhodia or Clairefontaine tablets.
