Modern Gilding Techniques by Harvest Crittenden - Level: All Skill Levels
In this class we will study some of the wonderful modern media for gilding with 23k gold leaf. We will go over flat and raised gilding, and complete a project using both flat and raised gilding together. We will take it step-by-step, so no worries if you are new to this. It is a lot of fun to watch as our projects begin to sparkle, and who doesn’t love a touch of sparkle? For those of you who do work for clients, this will greatly enhance the value of the skills you are able to offer. Come and learn these beautiful techniques.
Class Supplies:
- Small piercing awl
- Small double ball stylus
- Dappen dish clear
- Monogram Princeton brush OR very fine brush for painting details
- Dr. Martins Bleedproof White
- Two sheets of 140lb. 9”x12” hot press watercolor paper
- Small jar of Ormoline guilding medium
- Small jar Instacoll guilding medium
- Plastic coffee stirrer, or something similar, for stirring guilding medium
- 5-10 sheets of 23k or 24k gold leaf, not imitation
- Ruling pen (drafting style, inexpensive)
- Ruler with raised bottom (such as a ruler with cork bottom)
- 3 sheets of tracing paper
- 8”x10” Saral Transfer Paper, graphite. PLEASE DON’T USE A DIFFERENT BRAND.
- Tubes of professional gouache or water colors (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow OR blue, red & yellow. I will be using the CMYK palette, but use what you have.)
- Mixing brush for mixing paint
- Watercolor brush size 1 or 2 with a good point (Kolinsky 8408 is great)
- Palette for mixing paint
- 2H pencil
- 4 or 5 paper towels
- A few Q-Tips
- 2 water jars
- Eyedropper
- White eraser
- Drafting tape or drafting dots
- Soft make up brush (or similar) for brushing off gold flakes
